OMA curates exhibition at Galeries Lafayette
Le Défilé du siècle.

This autumn, Galeries Lafayette, Paris's iconic department store, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its famed Cupola, a symbol of the store's commitment to culture. OMA has been invited to study this centennial cultural journey. Conceived by AMO, 1912-2012: Chroniques d'un parcours créatif is an exhibition reflecting the store's unique formula of mixing culture with shopping under the iconic stained glass, built in 1912 by architect Ferdinand Chanut and the master glassmaker Jacques Gruber.

Galeries Lafayette has been, over the years, a stage and an observatory for the links between fashion, retail, economics, and art, but also the socio-economic history of France. By immersing themselves in the store's archives, and those of other cultural institutions, AMO has built an exhibition illuminating the store's unique evolution.

The exhibition will take place in the Galerie des Galeries, in the iconic Paris flagship store of Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann. It will open 16 October 2012.
