OMA appointed by Cathedral Group and Development Securities to masterplan Morden Wharf development on Greenwich Peninsula

OMA has been appointed by specialist mixed-use developer Cathedral Group PLC and joint venture partner Development Securities PLC as masterplanner and lead architect on the mixed-use development of Morden Wharf, a 19 acre regeneration site on London's Greenwich Peninsula. OMA will now start work on plans for the site, which was acquired as a corporate transaction by the joint venture in March 2012 and has the potential to produce a £950 million, 2 million sq ft mixed-used scheme.

OMA New York Wins Major Design Competitions in Miami Beach and Santa Monica

OMA has been selected as masterplanner and lead architect for the major redevelopment of the Miami Beach Convention Center. This success comes after OMA's design for a large mixed-use development in Santa Monica was selected by city officials earlier this month.

Construction has begun on a public library in Caen, northern France

Construction has begun on the Bibliothèque Multimédia à Vocation Régionale (BMVR), a four-story, 13,000 square meter public library in the city of Caen. Completion is scheduled for early 2016.

OMA and Oscar Properties win Tors Torn competition in Stockholm

OMA has won the design competition for Tors Torn in Stockholm. The project, led by OMA Partner Reinier de Graaf and OMA Associate Alex de Jong, and designed as the third tallest twin skyscrapers in Sweden, was selected from entries by four competing practices.

OMA leads the final round for Pont Jean-Jacques Bosc international competition in Bordeaux

OMA's design for a new bridge across the river Garonne in Bordeaux has been selected as one of two final competing projects by the city authorities. OMA's stripped-down design for the Pont Jean-Jacques Bosc attempts to rethink the civic function and symbolism of a 21st century bridge.

Construction begins on OMA’s Bryghusprojektet in Copenhagen, Denmark
Construction begins today on the OMA-designed Bryghusprojektet in Copenhagen, Denmark. The 27,000m² mixed-use project will accommodate a new headquarters for the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC). The building will act as the missing link between the city centre, the historic waterfront and the culturally rich Slotsholmen district of Copenhagen. more

OMA to masterplan southern neighbourhood of Bordeaux
OMA has been commissioned to design a masterplan for a major new urban development south of Bordeaux (FR), based on the expansion of the local tram system. The project, led by OMA associate Clement Blanchet and commissioned by La Fabrique Métropolitaine de la Communauté Urbaine de Bordeaux, aims to regenerate the neighborhoods of Bègles and Villenave d'Ornon, forging new connections to Bordeaux's central station. more

OMA-Designed Furniture for Knoll Unveiled in Milan

A new furniture range, "Tools for Life," designed by OMA for Knoll, was unveiled today at the 52nd annual Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Knoll invited Rem Koolhaas to design the furniture to mark the company's 75 years in the business, in which time they have commissioned furniture by the architects Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen and Frank Gehry, among others.

OMA masterplans Airport City for HIA Airport in Doha, Qatar

After winning an international competition, OMA has been announced as masterplanners for Airport City, a new 10km2 development where 200,000 people will live and work, linking the new Hamad International Airport with the city of Doha, Qatar. OMA's masterplan is a series of four circular districts along a spine parallel to the HIA runways, intended to create a strong visual identity and districts with unique identities. Phase One of the 30-year masterplan, which links airside and landside developments for business, logistics, retail, hotels, and residences, will be mostly complete in time for the 2022 World Cup, hosted by Qatar.

Rem Koolhaas announces title for 2014 Venice architecture biennale
The President of la Biennale di Venezia, Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the curator of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, Rem Koolhaas, met today at Ca' Giustinian with the representatives of the 40 Countries participating in the 14th Exhibition, which will take place from 7 June to 23 November 2014 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale (Preview on 5 and 6 June) and in various other venues in Venice. The title chosen by Rem Koolhaas for the 14th International Architecture Exhibition is: Fundamentals. more
