Rem Koolhaas announces title for 2014 Venice architecture biennale
The President of la Biennale di Venezia, Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the curator of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, Rem Koolhaas, met today at Ca' Giustinian with the representatives of the 40 Countries participating in the 14th Exhibition, which will take place from 7 June to 23 November 2014 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale (Preview on 5 and 6 June) and in various other venues in Venice. The title chosen by Rem Koolhaas for the 14th International Architecture Exhibition is: Fundamentals. more

Rem Koolhaas announced as Director of 2014 Venice architecture biennale
The Board of Directors of la Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, met today in the headquarters of Cà Giustinian and, after thanking and expressing its gratitude to David Chipperfield for the excellent results of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, appointed Rem Koolhaas Director of the Architecture Sector, with the specific responsibility of curating the 14th International Architecture Exhibition to be held in 2014.

Delirious New York published in Russian

Rem Koolhaas's Delirious New York: A Retroactive Manifesto for Manhattan (1978) is now available in Russian. The translation, by Anastassia Smirnova, is published by Strelka Press, the publishing arm of Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design. More info (in Russian) here.

Ecole Centrale conference with Rem Koolhaas and Clement Blanchet

In a recent public event at the Pavilion de l'Arsenal in Paris, OMA founding partner Rem Koolhaas and associate/director of French projects Clement Blanchet presented OMA's recent Ecole Centrale competition win and its urban development in Saclay. Blanchet questioned the future of education, explaining the concept of LABcity Ecole Centrale as a new educational platform for the twenty-first century whilst Koolhaas discussed OMA's previous educational projects such as Jussieu - Two Libraries and the McCormick Tribune Centre at IIT.

OMA masterplan for Sydney convention and exhibition precinct redevelopment selected

The New South Wales Government annouced on Tuesday that Destination Sydney, consisting of Lend Lease, HOSTPLUS, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless, is the preferred consortium for Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (SICEEP) redevelopment. OMA is the masterplan designer within the consortium, and is also the conceptual architect of the ICC Hotels within the masterplan.

Rem Koolhaas presented with Jencks Award 2012
In a public event last night at the Royal Insitute of British Architects (RIBA) in London, Rem Koolhaas was presented with the annual Charles Jencks Award. In his citation, Jencks, an architectural historian and designer, who first met Koolhaas at the Architectural Association in the late 1960s, said: "Rem Koolhaas, more than any other architect of his generation, has built a parallel life between the theory and practice of architecture." Koolhaas thanked Jencks for his longstanding "critical friendship," and then gave a lecture titled "Agenda: 4 Ambitions" which featured OMA's ongoing work in Eurasia, Lagos, preservation, and the countryside. De Rotterdam tops out

OMA's De Rotterdam, the largest building in the Netherlands, reached its highest point of construction - 150 metres - today. The achievement, exactly one year prior to the scheduled completion of the building, was marked by a ceremony attended by OMA partners-in-charge Rem Koolhaas and Ellen van Loon, and associate-in-charge Kees van Casteren.

OMA’s Maggie’s Centre awarded RIAS Andrew Doolan award

In a ceremony today, OMA's Maggie's Centre Gartnavel in Glasgow was awarded the Andrew Doolan Award by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. Named after its founder and patron, the architect/developer Andrew Doolan, the RIAS Doolan Award celebrates the best buildings in Scotland. Maggie's Centre was selected from a shortlist of 13 other projects. OMA partner-in-charge Ellen van Loon commented: "I sincerely thank the RIAS for this significant recognition. I am happy to announce that the £25,000 prize has been donated to Maggie's - a fantastic cause and a project which I thoroughly enjoyed working on."

Rem Koolhaas awarded honorary doctorate

The Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam today awarded Rem Koolhaas an honorary doctorate for his "outstanding services to architecture." Professor Lex Bouter, Rector Magnificus of VUA, conferred the honor in a ceremony including talks on architecture by Michel ter Hark, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and by the Belgian writer Kristien Hemmerechts. In his acceptance speech, Koolhaas cited a "constant curiosity" as the driver for his work in both building and writing.

OMA wins competition for École Centrale engineering school in Saclay, France
OMA has won the competition for the new École Centrale engineering school and its surrounding urban development in the research and innovation zone of Saclay, southwest of Paris. With the concept of a "lab city," OMA was selected from four competing international architectural practices. The project is led by Clément Blanchet, director of OMA projects in France. more

AMO's Real Fantasies for Prada

For the Prada Autumn/Winter 2012 lookbook and video Real Fantasies, AMO projects the future of fashion as a retrofitted past. Set within a dystopian society of machines and jagged geometries, genetically perfected clones roam digital colonies. Rem Koolhaas wins Jencks award

Rem Koolhaas has been named the winner of the Jencks Award for 2012. Given annually to an individual (or practice) that has recently made a major contribution internationally to both the theory and practice of architecture, the Jencks Award will be presented on Tuesday 20 November at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London. The event will feature a public lecture by Koolhaas, chaired by Charles Jencks, architectural theorist.  Jencks commented: "Rem Koolhaas, more than any other architect of his generation, has built a parallel life between the theory and practice of architecture." Previous winners of the Jencks Award include Zaha Hadid, Foreign Office Architects, Peter Eisenman, Cecil Balmond and Steven Holl.

Public Works opens at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012
Today at the Venice Biennale OMA unveils the exhibition Public Works, showcasing architectural masterpieces realized for the greater good by bureaucrats: 15 buildings, across different European cities, designed by architects employed by the public sector. The exhibition is curated by OMA Partner and Director of AMO Reinier de Graaf and by OMA Associate Laura Baird. more

American fashion brand Coach has commissioned OMA to develop a new merchandizing system that accommodates Coach's wide diversity of products while returning to the clarity of Coach's heritage stores. The collaboration, led by OMA partner Shohei Shigematsu, will begin inside upcoming flagship stores in New York and Tokyo. more

OMA curates exhibition at Galeries Lafayette

This autumn, Galeries Lafayette, Paris's iconic department store, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its famed Cupola, a symbol of the store's commitment to culture. OMA has been invited to study this centennial cultural journey. Conceived by AMO, 1912-2012: Chroniques d'un parcours créatif is an exhibition reflecting the store's unique formula of mixing culture with shopping under the iconic stained glass, built in 1912 by architect Ferdinand Chanut and the master glassmaker Jacques Gruber.
